<p>The Venezuelan government on July 8 announced the release from jail of opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez. He had reportedly been granted house arrest</a>.</p><p>Lopez had spent almost three and a half years in prison after being convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2014 for inciting violence during anti-government protests.</p><p>Lilian Tintori, the activist and Lopez’s wife, said the decision filled her with hope, writing, in Spanish</a>, “Today more than ever I raise my voice to demand the freedom of all political prisoners, and achieve justice and peace for our country force and faith!”</p><p>This low-quality live video from Tintori shows Lopez appearing from behind a fence at his home and waving the Venezuelan flag outside his home in Caracas.</p><p>His brief appearance came as an activist spoke to a crowd outside the home.
