<p>A trillion-ton iceberg calved off the Larsen ice shelf in Antarctica on Wednesday, July 12.</p><p>According to the British Antarctic Survey</a>, the new iceberg has an area of more than 6,000 sq km (2,300 sq m), larger than the state of Delaware.</p><p>Prof David G Vaughan, a glaciologist and director of science with the British Antarctic Survey, said that if the Larsen C segment of the ice shelf starts to retreat significantly and eventually collapses, “then we will see another contribution to sea level rise.” Credit: British Antarctic Survey via Storyful</p><br />
