Bride-to-be shot dead by Minneapolis cop

MINNEAPOLIS — Family members of a bride-to-be are demanding answers after she was shot and killed by a police officer on Saturday night. <br /> <br />Justine [f]Ruszczyk, 40, called Minneapolis police to report a possible assault in the alley behind her house, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. <br /> <br />Two officers responded to the 911 call and spoke with Ruszczyk at the scene. <br /> <br />The officer who shot and killed Ruszczyk has been named as 31-year-old Mohamed Noor[g], NBC affiliate KARE 11 reported. <br /> <br />Noor, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the police car, reportedly shot Damond through the driver's window. <br /> <br />Ruszczyk died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The police officers were wearing body cams but they were not switched on at the time. <br /> <br />"We are trying to come to terms with this tragedy and to understand why this has happened," Ruszczyk's family said in a statement. <br /> <br />Ruszczyk was from Sydney, Australia, but she also held U.S. citizenship. She originally trained as a veterinarian and most recently worked as a yoga instructor and life coach. <br /> <br />She was set to marry her fiance next month. <br /> <br />Noor is the first Somali-American cop to serve his community. He has been placed on paid administrative leave, along with the other officer who was at the scene.
