Local residents of the town of Pampas Tayacaja, Peru, clashed violently with police as they called for local and national authorities to open their university. Students and their supporters advanced on the police who launched tear gas at them in the hills on the outskirts of town. One policeman was injured and taken to the hospital after protesters surrounded him pelting him with stones and kicking him.<br />Local authorities are traveling to the capital to meet with personnel at the Ministry of Education to air their concerns.
