AHMEDABAD, INDIA — A driver miraculously escaped death when he crashed his car and was impaled by a two-foot-long metal rod. <br /> <br />Night shift worker Piyush Sundarva, 26, was driving home from work when he fell asleep at the wheel, the Mirror reported. <br /> <br />Piyush's car spun out of control and crashed into a metal road divider. The barricades smashed through the vehicle's windscreen and a metal rod punctured Piyush's chest. <br /> <br />He was rushed to the hospital where he remained awake during a two-and-a-half-hour long operation to remove the spike from his chest. <br /> <br />Piyush lost two fingers and fractured nine ribs, but the operation was a success and he is expected to make a full recovery.
