Actor and martial artist Jackie Chan has joined the race to save pangolins, the world’s most trafficked mammal. <br /><br />Chan appeared in a new video, recently published both in English and Chinese, urging fans to never buy pangolin meat or scales. <br /><br />“When the buying stops, the killing can, too,” he explains. <br /><br />The 182 member nations of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species embraced a total ban of the pangolin trade in September 2016. Even with the ban, the species is still under threat of extinction. <br /><br />Since 2000, pangolin populations have dropped by nearly 50 percent due to rising demand in southeast Asia for pangolin meat and scales, an ingredient in Chinese medicine.
