One of Russia’s main opposition parties says it has made significant gains in Moscow in Sunday’s (September 10) local council elections. <br /><br />According to its own count, Yabloko said it has won 180 seats. <br /><br />Russia’s prime minister said he is satisfied with the organisation of local and regional elections held throughout the country.<br /><br />Dmitry Medvedev, who is also chairman of the ruling United Russia party, said they were held at a high level everywhere.<br /><br />Voting was held in 82 out of Russia’s 85 constituent regions in the last major trip to the polls before next year’s presidential election. <br /><br />Some 42 parties and six public associations took part. More than 36,000 seats were open for election across the country. <br /><br />As well as that, about 230 local referendums took place in the last major trip to the polls before next year’s presidential election.<br />
