<p>A photographer captured an amazing timelapse of a September 8-9 Southern Lights display visible from Tasmania and across the ocean in New Zealand.</p><p>A pair of massive solar flares earlier in the week, as reported by NASA</a>, triggered magnetic storms that resulted in brilliant auroras across the globe. National Geographic reported</a> they were X-class flares, the most powerful category for a solar flare, and were capable of disrupting GPS signals and electric grids.</p><p>They were visible from Tasmania, the apple-shaped island that sits across a narrow sea from the Australia mainland.
