UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against Spartak Moscow
UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Spartak Moscow after a flare was fired onto the pitch during their Champions League game against NK Maribor.

The firework was fired from the away end at Maribor's Ljudski vrt Stadium in the early stages of the 1-1 draw and travelled half the length of the pitch, narrowly missing German referee Deniz Aytekin.

UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary body will deal with the case on September 21, five days before Liverpool are due in Moscow for their Group E match. The return fixture is on December 6.
UEFA's options to punish Spartak include closing part or all of its stadium for a future game. The Otkritie Arena is one of the venues for the 2018 World Cup.

It's the latest in a series of incidents involving Spartak fans, on the final day of last season there was a pitch invasion following a heavy defeat at Arsenal Tula when flares were set off and the goals torn down.

Earlier in the season, play had to be halted in the Moscow derby after flares were thrown into rival sections by both Spartak and CSKA fans.
