Car bomber hits NATO convoy in Kabul

A car bomber attacked a Danish convoy belonging to a NATO mission in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, wounding at least three civilians but leaving international forces unharmed, security officials said.<br /><br />A Danish military spokesman said some civilians may have been killed but Afghan officials reported no fatalities. The interior ministry said three civilians were wounded.<br /><br />Captain William Salvin, a spokesman for NATO’s Resolute Support mission, said the Danish soldiers were part of a security team normally engaged in protecting advisers travelling to and from the Afghan military academy near Kabul.<br /><br />AFP news agency reports the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which happened when a car packed with explosives hit the convoy in the west of the city.<br /><br />“The explosion was very strong… The windows of my house were shattered,” said one local resident.<br /><br />NATO has about 13,000 troops in Afghanistan. Their main role is to train and support Afghan forces fighting the Taliban and the Islamic State militant group.<br />
