Tesla Fires Hundreds of Workers<br />Tesla said Friday that the dismissals were not out of the ordinary, even though they came as the<br />automaker tries to increase the production of its first mass-market vehicle, the Model 3 sedan.<br />“As with any company, especially one of over 33,000 employees, performance reviews also occasionally result in employee departures,” the company said.<br />“Tesla is continuing to grow and hire new employees around the world.”<br />Although Tesla confirmed the dismissals, it did not reveal the exact number of employees who were fired after the reviews<br />Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Musk, has set aggressive targets for the expansion of its plant in<br />Fremont, Calif., including increasing annual production volume to 500,000 vehicles from 100,000.<br />The company has been criticized for the slow pace of its early production of the new model,<br />which has generated hundreds of thousands of deposits from prospective buyers.
