In thisI add rubber bands and a propeller to the glider I made from polystyrene plates in #34. I make the propeller out of a plastic pop bottle. \r
\r
I have been asked for details of the propeller as you see in the video I did draw something on paper to give me some guidance but I just sort of guessed what shape and size looked about right. I have since measured it and it is made from a rectangle 14 cm long and 2 cm wide. Mark the centre and then trim 5 mm off the front edge of each blade and add some curves so the propeller looks a bit like a slightly squared figure eight. To be honest I am sure it is not the best and you could try other shapes to see what works best. I have seen square blades work fine, we are not building a high quality flying machine here. If you use the same plastic pop bottle I used, be ready for it to go soft and warp when you hot glue it. Initially I panicked when that happened, but then I realised I could use it to my advantage and add a good twist to the blade while it was soft.\r
\r
The width and length of the plane were just based on what the biggest section was that I could cut from the plates. The coffee stirrer is 17cm long. Each wing is 15.5cm long and 6cm wide. The tail is 12cm tip to tip and 3cm wide\r
\r
The main components are:\r
Styrofoam plate\r
Wooden coffee stirrer\r
Short length of solder or similar as a balance weight\r
\r
Extra items for the propeller\r
Plastic pop bottle for the propeller blade\r
Plastic jewellery bead for the bearing\r
Short plastic tube - mine came from a hand wash bottle pump\r
Paperclip \r
You would get better results buying a proper propeller for small electric planes online.\r
\r
Rubber power\r
Plastic jewellery bead for the bearing\r
Short plastic tube - mine came from a hand wash bottle pump\r
Paperclip \r
\r
Tools\r
-\r
Hot Glue Gun\r
Hobby knife\r
\r
Camera FujiFilm FinePix S4800\r
Editor Serif MoviePlus Starter Edition\r
\r
Related playlists and videos\r
I have grouped these styrofoam plate gliders into their own playlist here \r
The original basic glider video is here \r
Rubber Band Power version is here \r
Electric version is here \r
Aircraft playlist \r
Supercapacitor planes \r
Rubber Band Plane Prop Assembly Demo playlist \r
Rubber Band Power Planes \r
Radio Control Aircraft \r
RC Biplane Silverlit Palm-Z \r
Silverlit X Twin Jet RC Plane \r
Silverlit 27 MHz RC Sopwith Camel \r
Home Bargains - txJuice RC Stunt Plane xtreme \r
RC Airplane Sky İ 27MHz \r
Hot Wire Styrofoam Plane playlist \r
Another Plane from Scrap Foam playlist \r
DLG Pizza Tray Glider with Cheap Kite frame playlist \r
Sky Hunter 230 Radio Control Flying Wing 40 MHz \r
\r
My Channel page \r
Oldest videos \r
Most Popular \r
Newest videos \r
Playlists \r
Facebook \r
Merchandise - Check both of these links if you are interested as the prices will vary and the shipping charges will be different.\r
\r
\r
I have thousands of videos on YouTube, to find one try my search guides or \r
My GrandadsOtherChannel channel is generally where I will host the videos that give extra detail or longer versions of the videos I post on my main channel \r
If you feel the need to help support my channel you can donate at
