About two dozen octopuses were spotted coming ashore on a beach in Wales on Friday, October 27, in bizarre behaviour that has been linked to recent storm activity.

According to Brett Stones, who recorded this footage and runs local dolphin-watching tours, “Approximately 25 of these animals were seen crawling out of the sea at night here in New Quay on Friday.”

Stones told Storyful he was unsure why they were on the beach and said perhaps it was due to recent storms. This was a view shared by a representative of the National Marine Aquarium, who spoke to the Daily Telegraph.

Stones said he helped collect the creatures and return them to the sea, but unfortunately a number were found washed up along the shore the following morning.
