BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA — Confused Twitter users are paying tribute to a murderous cult leader after mistaking him for singer Marilyn Manson.

CNN reports that 83-year-old serial killer Charles Manson died of natural causes on November 18 and finally met his maker.

Manson and his Manson Family crew terrorized L.A. in the 60s, orchestrating a series of gruesome killings that included the infamous murder of actress Sharon Tate and her unborn child.

Most people celebrated the passing of a heinous figure, naturally. But when "RIP Charles Manson" began trending on Twitter, everyone was baffled.

It soon became clear that except for the select few who were actually mourning the serial killer, most people had genuinely confused Charles Manson for shock-rock singer Marilyn, who uses the same last name.

The 48-year-old singer, who is Brian Warner in real life, formed his stage name by combining the names of Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. He hasn't responded to the mix-up, except to tweet a link to his cover of Charles Manson's 'Sick City.' So yeah, definitely still alive and kicking.
