HIV attacks the body’s immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells). AIDS is a condition. AIDS develops when HIV has caused serious damage to the immune system. Globally, an estimated 36.7 million people are living with HIV.<br />At least two million of them are children. There is currently no cure for HIV/AIDS. <br />However, treatment can control HIV. New HIV infections have fallen by 35% since 2000. To help prevent the spread of HIV:<br />• Use a condom every time you have sex.<br />• Get tested and know your partner’s HIV status.
