<br /> <p>Twelve people died</a> on December 28 after a fire ripped through a Prospect Avenue apartment building in the Bronx borough of New York City, New York.</p><p>“This is the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city – it will rank as one of the worst losses in a fire in many years,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said</a>.</p><p>According to the New York Post</a>, the fire started just after 7 pm and quickly grew to a four-alarm blaze with more than 170 firefighters responding. At least 15 people were initially reported injured and witnesses saw people trying to run into the building to rescue inhabitants.</p><p>At the time of writing, the fire was still active.
