<p>High winds and heavy snow accompanied a powerful nor’easter that affected a large swath of the East Coast on Thursday, January 4.</p><p>In New York, the National Weather Service reported</a> snow totals up to 8.5 inches on Long Island around noon, several hours into the storm. A peak wind gust of 57 miles per hour was reported in Suffolk County. Up to 15 inches of snow was expected to fall, the weather service said</a>.</p><p>A blizzard warning was in effect for eastern portions of the region with high winds and snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour expected.</p><p>This video shows the snow falling over a seven-hour period in the early part of the storm in Hicksville, New York.
