<p>Whiteouts from a major nor’easter on December 4 caused hundreds of flights in and out of JFK Airport to be cancelled, shut down the airport in mid-afternoon, and diverted one giant airliner to a small upstate New York airport.</p><p>This video shows conditions aboard flight SQ26</a>, bound for JFK but diverted to Stewart International Airport</a> in Newburgh, Orange County, New York. Singapore Airlines operates A-380s on that route, the largest airliner in service worldwide.</p><p>Fortunately, Stewart Airport, about 60 miles north of New York City, was built with a special emergency runway for the supersonic Concorde airliner when it was in service, which can accommodate large aircraft.</p><p>As many as 4,000 flights were canceled</a> because of the storm.
