According to a statement from NASA, one of the agency's treasured astronauts has died.<br />John Young has died at the age of 87 at his home in Houston.<br />Young served in the Navy for 25 years as an aviator and test pilot prior to his service in NASA, obtaining the rank of Captain.<br />He would go on to join NASA in the second group of astronauts before the Gemini program.<br />Young worked at the agency for 42 years, flying two Gemini missions, two Apollo missions, and two Space Shuttle missions. <br />
