Avalanche in Swiss ski resort caught on camera

This is the moment an avalanche took place in the Swiss ski resort of Zermatt, where 13,000 tourists have been stranded.<br /><br />The avalanche took place on a road between Täsch and Zermatt in Switzerland on January 4.<br /><br />The closure of the road left tourists stuck in Zermatt, which lies below the Matterhorn peak.<br /><br />"The incident happened on a road which was already closed to any traffic. The video was taken by a surveillance system: nobody was in danger at any time, there were no persons in the area," writes the company that owns the footage. <br /><br />Road and rail links to the mountain resort had been cut off for the last two days due to extreme weather. <br /><br />Some people managed to leave the mountain resort using a helicopter. <br /><br />Others are waiting for the rail links to reopen. <br /><br />Officials announced that the trains are due to be operational on Wednesday (January 10).<br /><br />+CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT OBSCURE LOGO+
