<br /> <p>At least two people were killed and scores were injured following what the US Geological Survey said</a> was a 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Peru on Sunday, January 14. The region of Arequipa was reported to be the worst affected area.</p><p>Peru’s President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski tweeted</a> that he was traveling to the Arequipa towns Acarí and Chala to examine the extent of the damage and coordinate humanitarian aid.</p><p>EsSalud, the Social Health Insurance of Peru, said 29 people had been treated at the Maria Reiche de Marcona Hospital, and that a temporary medical post would be set up in Arequipa.</p><p>Chala TV streamed live video to Facebook from a medical post in the town where people with injuries were treated, as well as streaming other footage from the Chala area.</p><p>The governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio, tweeted</a> that a man had died in the town of Yauca after being hit by a rock.</p><p>A second person died in the town of Bella Union after a building collapsed, according to Chilean media reports</a>.</p><p>Power outages were reported</a> in several areas.
