GM wants to test self-driving cars with no steering wheels by 2019

DETROIT — GM is asking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for permission to test self-driving vehicles without steering wheels by 2019. <br /><br />The carmaker has already been testing the autonomous Chevy Bolt in San Francisco and Phoenix, according to the Daily Dot. <br /><br />The fourth-generation Cruise AV has no steering wheel, no pedals, no manual controls and no driver. <br />The self-driving vehicle will be using for ride-hailing, not personal use, the Daily Dot reported. <br />If granted approval, GM could deploy more test vehicles in cities across the U.S. Currently, only seven states allow testing for vehicles with no steering wheels or pedals: Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, Colorado and Nevada.
