<br /> On Saturday, Turkey opened a new front in Syria’s war. The country launched airstrikes against a U.S.-backed Kurdish militia in Afrin province. The attacks raise the prospect of worsening relations between Ankara and NATO ally Washington.<br />The operation was dubbed by the Turks as “Operation Olive Branch”. It sees Ankara confronting Kurdish fighters allied to the United States at a time when ties between Turkey and Washington appear dangerously close to a breaking point. <br />
