SAN FRANCISCO — Hackers are using malicious cryptocurrency apps to steal money and personal data from Apple and Google apps stores, according to a new study. <br /><br />Researchers from internet security firm RiskIQ looked at more than 18,000 apps to find ones blacklisted by cybersecurity vendors, CNBC reported. <br />They discovered 661 blacklisted cryptocurrency apps across 20 app stores including Google Play and Apple's App Store. <br /><br />Google Play offered the highest number of malicious apps with 272 available for download. <br />Hackers used phrases like "bitcoin exchange," "bitcoin wallet" and "cryptocurrency" to trick potential victims, the report said. <br /><br />RiskIQ recommended investors thoroughly research possible exchanges and wallet apps before use. People should check the developer's name, user reviews and number of app downloads.
