<p>Lord Bates, the international development minister, offered his resignation “with immediate effect” after being late for a debate on Wednesday, January 31.</p><p>Bates apologised for his late arrival and declared his will to resign. “I’m thoroughly ashamed for not being in my place and so I therefore shall be offering my resignation to the prime minister with immediate effect,” Bates said before leaving the House of Lords</a>. The other peers reacted crying “no” towards him.</p><p>This is not the first resignation for the peer, who left the Home Office in 2016</a> to walk 2,000 miles from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro for UNICEF.
