John Mahoney, best known for playing the wise-cracking father of Dr. Frasier Crane, died Sunday.<br /><br />The 77-year-old reportedly passed away in a Chicago hospice facility.<br /><br />Mahoney spent 11 years playing Martin Crane, father of Kelsey Grammer’s fussy lead character, on the Cheers spinoff.<br /><br />PHOTOS: New Scandalous Secrets Emerge After George Michael’s Death</a><br /><br />He was nominated for two Emmys and two Golden Globes and won a Screen Actors Guild prize for his portrayal of Martin, a good-hearted everyman compared with his two genius yet picky sons.<br /><br />He also appeared in about 30 movies, including five as a voice actor in such animated classics as Antz and The Iron Giant.<br /><br />We pay for juicy info!
