<p>Students at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, braved cold and blustery conditions on Monday, February 5, during their walks to-and-fro on campus. A trained weather spotter reported</a> 5.7 inches of snow fell in West Ames on Monday.</p><p>The National Weather Service reported</a> it had been 769 days since central Iowa received more than three inches of snow. The last time the area received more than five inches was on December 28, 2015.</p><p>The snowy conditions caused dozens of traffic accidents, resulting in the deaths of seven people, according to The Des Moines Register</a>. One of the crashes involved nearly 50 vehicles on Interstate 35.</p><p>The snow stopped at around 5 pm. Another inch of snow could fall</a> across the area on Tuesday afternoon.
