A rare four-legged chicken has been discovered in northern India where it happily lives with an extra set of limbs.

The two-months-old chick was born with a condition called 'Polymelia', which has given it a pair of vestigial legs hanging from its hindquarters.

The bird's owner, Javed Ali, who lives in the Kidwai Ward of the city has received a lot of attention for this strange new arrival.

It has been reported that buyers interested in picking up the bird have offered up to 5000 Rupees, but Mr Ali is not prepared to sell it.

Kamlesh Ahirwar, professor of Zoology explains that such incidents are normal in nature:

''Due to a hormonal imbalance, the chicken was not able to develop full growth.''

''This is a natural phenomenon. There are no miracles in it.''
