Killings in Toronto’s Gay Community Expose ‘an Open Wound’ With Police<br />In January, Mr. McArthur was charged with killing Mr. Essen<br />and Mr. Kinsman; Majeed Kayhan, an Afghan immigrant who disappeared in 2012; Soroush Mahmudi, 50, a married father of two who was reported missing by his family in 2015; and Dean Lisowick, 47, a homeless prostitute who was never reported missing.<br />Mr. McArthur has been charged with the murders of Mr. Kinsman and four other men, and police said additional charges were expected.<br />He had had a sexual relationship with Mr. Kinsman, they said, though it was not until November<br />that investigators suspected him of killing Mr. Kinsman.<br />Last week, the police said they had recovered the dismembered remains of six people, including Mr. Kinsman, from planters on a property where Bruce McArthur, a 66-year-old landscaper, worked,<br />and investigators were searching 30 other places across the city.<br />Haran Vijayanathan said that Unfortunately, it had to take the disappearance of Andrew Kinsman,<br />a white man who was such a community pillar, to reopen the investigation and make these links,<br />Nicki Ward said that The symptom is missing and murdered people,<br />The mayor of Toronto, John Tory, said he would meet with community leaders to hear their concerns<br />but said he would not interfere with a continuing police investigation.
