A baby monkey sat clinging to his dead mother in a heart-breaking scene. <br /><br />The mother monkey died after touching a live wire near Gadag in South India on February 14. <br /><br />The baby, which was playing in the vicinity, rushed to the mother and tried to wake her up. <br /><br />As Hindus regard monkeys as sacred animals, local residents decided to give the dead mother a ritual burial. <br /><br />They placed her on a makeshift platform and adorned her with a garland made of flowers. The baby monkey sensing something was amiss sat clinging on to her. <br /><br />The sight of the baby not letting go of his dead mother drew a large crowd there was no dry eye around.<br /><br />Manohar Kulkarni, an eyewitness, said: “It was very tough to separate the baby from his mother. He has been adopted by an animal welfare organisation.”
