Researchers have identified a genetic mutation linked to the sped-up onset of ovarian and prostate cancers.
The mutation is passed through the X-chromosome, meaning that it is the father who transfers it to the next generation.
The mutation is suspected of advancing the onset of ovarian cancer by six or more years.
Earlier studies suggest that the sister of a woman who developed ovarian cancer faces a higher risk of developing the disease than the mother.
