Seoul denounced Tokyo for sending senior government officials to attend a local event which celebrates Japan's sovereignty over Korea's Dokdo island.<br /> The foreign ministry issued a strong statement of protest against the annual event, and called for it to be abolished.<br />Seoul also demanded Tokyo stop laying claim to the easternmost islets that are historically, geographically, and legally South Korean territory,... adding that as a responsible nation, Japan should view history with humility and honesty.<br />It's the sixth year in a row that Tokyo sent representatives to the controversial event in Shimane Prefecture.<br />The region laid claim to the Korea-controlled island in 2005, even designating February 22nd as 'Takeshima Day', after the Japanese name for Dokdo. <br />
