The UN Security Council is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the failed implementation of its resolution calling for a 30-day ceasefire in Syria. <br /> Britain and France requested the closed-door meeting that comes amid continued shelling by pro-government forces on the rebel-held area of eastern Ghouta. <br />The truce was meant to allow delivery of humanitarian aid and provide a safe passage for civilians to evacuate. <br />On Monday, at least 80 people were killed in airstrikes and artillery fire, making it the deadliest day in the region since the Security Council's demand for a ceasefire about two weeks ago.<br />In total, more than 800 lives have been lost since pro-regime forces intensified their offensive on eastern Ghouta. <br />
