New York Today: A Snowy Evening Commute<br />In New Jersey, heavy snow has toppled trees and taken down power lines, disrupting travel along multiple New Jersey Transit rail lines.<br />• New Jersey Transit has told commuters to leave New York as early as possible.<br />New Jersey Transit bus service is suspended on all routes.<br />Currently, power outages are affecting more than 17,000 customers in the city<br />and Westchester, more than 184,000 in New Jersey, 21,500 on Long Island, and at least 7,700 people upstate.<br />Service is suspended on the Gladstone and Montclair Boonton train lines in both directions; on the Morris & Essex line between Dover to Summit;<br />and on the Atlantic City rail line between Philadelphia 30th St. and Atlantic City.<br />The five boroughs and Westchester are on track to get anywhere between 7<br />and 11 inches of snow, and some areas of New Jersey may see as much as 20 inches.<br />• New York City appointed its first nightlife mayor.<br />After 8 p.m., service will be hourly on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines.<br />• Roads: A travel advisory is in effect for all areas east of Interstate 81, essentially, the entire eastern half of New York State.<br />Express service is expected to be reduced as the snow picks up.
