Facebook is being probed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over reports THE world's most popular social media network leaked massive amounts of user data to a firm aligned to then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. <br />Park Ji-won has more. <br /> <br /> The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is probing how Cambridge Analytica, a British data analytics firm hired by Donald Trump's presidential campaign, obtained the personal data of about 50 million Facebook users.<br />It's reviewing whether Facebook violated a 2011 consent decree regarding the firm's privacy protections, and whether Cambridge Analytica used the data for political gain.<br />In a statement, Facebook said it remains strongly committed to protecting users' information,.. and it appreciates the opportunity to answer any questions the FTC may have. <br /> U.S. lawmakers are demanding to hear direct testimony from Facebook's top executives,... including Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg,.. on the growing controversy over the misuse of Facebook data by the conservative-leaning British data firm.<br />The head of the European Parliament also said EU lawmakers will investigate whether the data was misused and whether citizens' privacy rights were violated.<br />Britain's Information Commissioner's Office will also pursue a warrant to get access to Cambridge Analytica's servers,... to investigate the matter further.<br /> In the wake of the snowballing scandal,... the New York Times reports that Facebook's chief information security officer Alex Samos is leaving the company,... quoting sources from within Facebook. <br />Park Ji-won, Arirang News. <br />
