One-horned rhino census 2018 shows Indian rhino populations are growing

Indian rhinos are making a comeback. This year’s census counted 2,413 rhinos, up from 2,401 in 2015. That’s 12 new rhinos.<br /> <br /><br />In the early 1900’s there were less than 200 rhinos left in Asia.<br /><br />The new population count may not seem like much, but one-horned rhinos have a slow reproductive cycle. Pregnancy lasts 15 to 16 months, and calves stay with their mothers for a year and a half before going off on their own. Female rhinos can give birth to around 10-13 babies in their lifetime<br /><br />These rhinos continue to be poached, but conservation efforts have been pretty successful,
