The Democrat party of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono may be unpopular and mired in corruption scandals but it is taking politics outside of the capital city, Jakarta, in a bid to drum up interest among voters. The party has just held the latest of a series of conventions in the coal-rich city of Balikpapan in Kalimantan, as it tries to find a successor to Mr Yudhoyono, who steps down as president this year after reaching the two-term limit.
