Millions of Americans are either full-time freelancers or do independent contractor work.<br />What many of them may not know is that some cities require a permit to work from home.<br />It's a good idea to check your local ordinances. If you rent, inform your landlord.<br />If you don't have a permit and need one, municipal responses can vary.<br />At best, they may send you a letter telling you to get a permit and possibly pay a fine.<br />At worst, they may tell you to cease operations immediately! <br />
