Glen has been on the lookout for a great French Onion Chip Dip - but all the ones at the grocery store are sub-par... and most 'recipes' just dump soup mix into mayo or sour cream. Glen gets real Making French Onion Chip Dip from scratch, and Julie stops by for a taste test.<br />Ingredients:<br />2 Tbsp (30 mL) butter<br />2 cups (500 mL) diced onions<br />4 shallots<br />½ tsp (2 mL) salt<br />2 Tbsp (30 mL) balsamic vinegar<br />½ tsp (2 mL) white pepper<br />½ tsp (2 mL) cayenne pepper<br />4 oz (120g) cream cheese <br />½ cup (125 mL) sour cream <br />½ tsp (2 mL) onion powder <br />¼ tsp (1 mL) garlic powder<br /><br />Method:<br />Melt the butter in a fry pan over medium heat.<br />Add the onions, shallots, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. <br />Cook for 5 minutes, stirring. <br />Then reduce the heat to medium low and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. <br />Add the balsamic vinegar and reduce.<br />Remove from stove and allow to cool.<br />Cream the cream cheese in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer.<br />Add the sour cream, garlic powder and onion powder and cream until lump free.<br />Add the cooled and caramelised onions. <br />Mix until just combined. <br />Refrigerate over night to really let the flavours meld… or eat it right away. <br /><br />Music:<br />http://facebook.com/dyallas<br />http://instagram.com/dyallas<br />http://twitter.com/_dyalla<br />http://soundcloud.com/dyallas
