House Speaker Paul Ryan wants House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to succeed him.<br />According to Speaker Ryan, he prefers McCarthy to Majority Whip Steve Scalise, adding that GOP leadership thinks McCarthy is the right person for the position.<br />Speaker Ryan will not seek re-election, and has chosen to retire at the end of his current term, which will leave a vacancy for the Speaker of the House.<br />On NBC's Meet the Press, Ryan publicly offered his endorsement for McCarthy. <br />
