This is the moment that Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa rode a monster wave in Portugal, earning him a nomination at the World Surf League awards, announced last week.<br /><br />The unseen footage captured on November 8, 2017, shows the big wave surfer - the third man seen surfing in the video - riding one of the largest waves of the season at Praia do Norte beach near the fishing village of Nazare.<br /><br />Koxa's skill at riding the wave saw him being nominated for the World Surf League's Biggest Wave Awards.<br /><br />The 18th Annual WSL Big Wave Awards competition window concluded on March 20, 2018, spanning the previous 12 months of surf action. <br /><br />According to the World Surf League: "The Quiksilver Airlift XXL Biggest Wave Award goes to the surfer who, by any means available, catches and rides the biggest wave of the year. The winner will receive a $25,000 prize and the photographer of the ride will receive a $5,000 prize."<br /><br />The nominations were unveiled last week and the actual ceremony takes place on April 28. <br /><br />Praia do Norte beach, near the fishing village of Nazaré, has become famous for huge waves since Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara set a then-record in 2011 for the largest wave ever surfed when he rode a 78-foot wave.
