<p>Clashes erupted between protesters demonstrating against social security reforms and supporters of the government in the capital of Nicaragua, Managua, on April 18, local papers reported</a>.</p><p>Riot police were mobilized</a> to respond to the clashes and traffic was diverted from roads where protesters were marching.</p><p>The protesters demonstrated against reforms to the pension system that see worker contributions increase, while reducing the payout of future pensions</a>, a measure the president of the Nicaraguan Institute of Social Security</a> said was necessary to sustain the institution for 10 years, at which point further reforms would be necessary.</p><p>This footage shows clashes at the Central American University in Managua, where stones and bottles were thrown into the campus, according to the uploader.
