Thousands took to the streets across Spain after five men accused of the gang rape of an 18-year-old woman were found guilty of sexual abuse.

The footage, captured yesterday evening (April 26) in the northern Basque Country in front of the Court of Justice in the city of Donosti, shows a huge crowd of demonstrators shouting: "It is not abuse, it is rape."

Many are carrying placards and wave pro-feminist flags.

The attack happened in 2016 during Running of the Bull festivities at Pamplona and was filmed on phones and later shared on WhatsApp.

The five men were sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual abuse, rather than the almost 23 years in prison that the prosecution sought for rape and other charges.

The woman’s lawyer said she would appeal against the sentence.

The local government of Navarre, the region of Pamplona where the case was heard, said it would also appeal.

The case could eventually go as far as the Spanish Supreme Court, local reports say.
