North Korea is seeking to add more flight routes to other countries,... and it wants to do that by linking its flight information region, or F-I-R, to that of South Korea.<br />F-I-Rs are regions of airspace assigned to the air traffic controllers of specific countries,... and access to South Korean air traffic control would allow the North to have more routes.<br /> Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday that the matter is being considered by relevant ministries... with the transport ministry at the center.<br />The ministry spokesperson added that, to his knowledge, the North wants to create a new route to a third country -- not South Korea -- unlike what's been previously reported.<br />It was reported last week that the North had applied to the International Civil Aviation Organization in February to open new air routes to the South.<br />Currently, North Korea's Air Koryo has only chartered flights to China and Russia. <br />
