An off-duty police officer has described the moment he ushered elderly bus passengers off the vehicle after it burst into flames this morning in central Rome. <br /><br />A passenger bus caught fire and exploded this morning in Rome, sending a big black cloud of smoke over the city centre.<br /><br />Eyewitness video filmed this morning at around 10.30am in Via del Tritone shows the aftermath of the accident.<br /><br />An ex-lieutenant of the Italian Carabinieri was on the bus when it caught fire. He explained: "There were a lot of people. As soon as I spotted the fire, I took the elders and ushered them out of the vehicle."<br /><br />According to local reports and the filmer, no passengers have been injured and the blaze was put under control by firefighters.<br /><br />The cause is unknown.
