The U.S. Navy has said it has begun sorties against the Islamic State in Syria, continuing efforts to eradicate the militants. <br /> The strike force led by aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman began the sorties last Thursday, after the carrier joined the Sixth Fleet last month. <br />Sorties are attacks made by forces coming out from a defensive position. <br />The operation comes almost a month after the U.S., U.K. and France launched airstrikes on Syrian chemical weapons installations in response to a suspected chemical attack. <br />
