Lancaster bomber stuns onlookers on Dambuster's 75th anniversary

A Lancaster bomber performed a surprise flypast over Hathersage today (May 17) in commemoration of the Dambuster's 75th anniversary. <br /><br />The unannounced manoeuvre took place after the planned flypast on the real 75th anniversary – yesterday – was cancelled. <br /><br />The bomber took off from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.<br /><br />The last surviving member of the RAF squad of the famous Operation Chastise, Johnny Johnson, was on board the legendary bomber. <br /><br />The operation, in 1943, targeted key dams along major rivers in Germany with specially-designed "bouncing bombs".
