I use the same size cylindrical shape plastic bottles (2 liters) to make aquariums and planters for them. Check out my previous videos for more details.\r
Remove all stickers from the bottle.\r
Look on the bottom of the bottle.\r
There are 5 mounds.\r
We have to make a hole on the top of each mound.\r
Its simpler to make it with a saw.\r
Saw off about 5 mm of the tip of each mound, making a hole, about 20 mm in diameter.\r
Use a knife to smooth the edges of the holes.\r
Cut off the bottom part of the bottle to a desirable size.\r
Cut off the neck part of the bottle.\r
Cut the middle part (cylinder) of the bottle into two rectangles of about same size.\r
Trim the edge of the bottom part of the bottle with scissors.\r
We have made the basic planter. Lets improve it to our needs.\r
Roll the rectangle into a funnel shape.\r
Make the narrow side of the funnel fit through the hole of the planter. The wide side should be 2-4 times wider.\r
Secure it with clear sticky tape.\r
Insert the narrow end of the funnel through any hole in the planter.\r
Hold the funnel in place.\r
Use a hot soldering iron to cut off excess on the narrow side of the funnel. The remaining part of the funnel should protrude about 1 cm from the bottom of the planter.\r
Mold the protruding part of the funnel to the edges of the hole.\r
Smooth the edges.\r
Use scraps of plastic to seal any remaining gaps between the funnel and the hole.\r
Congratulations! We have made a planter with a funnel.\r
Use the remaining rectangular piece to make the second funnel.\r
Attach the second funnel to another hole in the planter.\r
Here is an example of a planter with two funnels. Here you can see an example where I use a planter with one funnel.\r
And this is an example where I use a planter with two funnels.\r
I use funnels for various purposes.\r
I can put a plant through the funnel directly in the water.\r
It is Ornamental Sweet Potato that grows very well in this way.\r
You can see the roots of the plant in the water.\r
A different plant grows in the planter without any interference with the first.\r
I feed fish through the second funnel.\r
Otherwise I would have to lift the planter for every feeding.\r
I have a couple more ideas to use funnels - will see how it works out!\r
Have fun and happy aquaponics :)\r
\r
Blog: \r
\r
More fun on my website \r
\r
Views as Money:
