They were told their daughter must cover up and wear another top over her dress because the dress goes against their internal policy.<br /> A three-year-old girl's parents were appalled after she was banned from wearing her favourite sundress to pre-school because it's “inappropriate”.<br /><br />Sadie and Jamie Stonehouse were told their daughter must cover up and wear another top over her dress by staff at Little Years Nursery School in Winnipeg, Canada.<br /><br />The preschool said because the straps on Lola Stonehouse’s outfit were less than two inches wide, it goes against their internal policy.<br /><br />Mum Sadie has hit back, telling a local news channel it has put her in the uncomfortable position of having to explain to Lola why the dress isn’t allowed.<br /> Speaking to CTV News , she said: “She's not going to understand.<br /><br />“She's going to think that maybe she did something wrong, when she very much didn't.<br /><br />"So now she's going to be questioning her own body. And that's such a young age to even be concerned about something like that.<br /><br />“I don't think any girl should have to worry about how much shoulder she's exposing when she dresses to go to school or anywhere else.”<br />The problem arose on Wednesday, when temperatures in Winnipeg soared to 30C.<br /><br />Lola’s mum picked out the light dress from her daughter’s closet and thought it looked perfect for the hot weather.<br /><br />Teachers had a different view and declared it was “inappropriate for school” and that next time she’d have to wear a shirt.<br />The nursery school director told CTV News that staff follow a dress code laid out by the local school authority.<br />However, a spokesman for the division then said it doesn't have a dress code and that leaders should use their personal judgement.<br /><br />In a statement, they said: "Instead, we believe in allowing our school leaders to use discretion and encourage best practices in a respectful way."<br /><br />Even though the parents disagree with the apparent dress code, they say they plan to follow it.
