The U.S. Treasury Department has levied fresh economic sanctions on Iranian individuals and organizations, including the militant group Hezbollah, on charges of human rights abuses against the Iranian public.<br /> It is the latest round of punitive measures by the Trump administration and comes in response to the Iranian government's crackdown on student protests.<br />It also follows President Trump's decision to pull out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.<br />Those on the list will be blocked from the U.S. financial system.<br />In a statement released Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Iran exports terrorism and instability across the world.<br />He also accused Tehran of diverting national resources that should belong to the people to fund a massive and expensive censorship apparatus and suppress free speech.<br />There was no immediate response from Iran, but it has threatened to continue its nuclear program if the nuclear pact is not salvaged. <br />
